Boundaries

Boundaries! What rings in your head when you hear the word boundary? Irrespective of what has popped in your mind as you read this, remember that, no matter how kind an individual you believe you are, boundaries are essential in your life. 

It is necessary that we all have boundaries in place if we want to experience healthy relationships! It’s a safeguard mechanisms.

A boundary means setting a line/limit or drawing the line within every context of  relationship (professional, family,  friendship, business, etc)…  Psychologists have classified boundaries into six parts. These include physical,  emotional, time,  intellectual, sexual and material. Having these boundaries is very crucial for your all-round wellbeing! 

Without boundaries, it is easy to disregard your own value, time, needs, desires, limits and those of others too! This can lead to toxic relationships.

Without boundaries, every Tom, Dick & Harry will have a field play in your life!

If you struggle to maintain boundaries because you believe people will label you unkind, I would like you to know that having ‘BOUNDARIES’ does not connote wickedness! You’re not mean because you have set boundaries! Even the word admonishes us that we should ‘guard our hearts with all diligence… and that we should ‘ be wise as serpents but be gentle/harmless as a dove…’ Now, those are boundaries!
